Pastor Steve Scheer has been the Senior Pastor at Gaylord Community Church for 25 years. He is married to Cheryl and they have four children:
Chris, Ross, Sara and Carlye.

  The Scheer family has a great love for people and relate to others in an open, honest and positive way. Their passion is not only to bring people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, but also to help deepen believers' relationships with the Lord in any way they can.

  A graduate of Concordia College, St. Paul, MN, with a degree in Religion and Theology, and Education, Pastor Steve and Cheryl ministered as World Vision representatives, presenting child sponsorship programs throughout the United States. Then, In 1981, they responded to the call of God to pastor in Gaylord, Michigan, and began ministering at Gaylord Community Church.

  Pastor Steve is a visionary who helped birth Northern Christian Radio, New Life Pregnancy Center, and Otsego Christian School. He is an avid outdoorsman with a love of nature, fishing and hunting.

  Pastor Steve and Karla Hawkins have been a part of Gaylord Community Church since August of 1999 when they moved here from Texas. Steve is an Assistant Pastor, elder, church treasurer, and together he and Karla are leaders over GCC's Children's Ministries from nursery through fifth grade. They are proud parents of four children: Ariane, Daniel, Anjuli and Dustin.

  Pastor Hawk, (as he is affectionately called), was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He later joined the Navy and "traveled the world" for ten years. Karla was born in Texas, but was raised on the mission field in Santiago, Chile. After Steve and Karla were married in 1983, they lived in Charleston, SC, Sicily, Italy, and Orlando, Florida while doing vocational mission work.

  Sensing God's call to go into full-time ministry, they moved to Texas where they both graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1992. While in Texas, they were very active in establishing a fast growing church with contemporary worship, led small groups and raised up new leaders that were eventually sent to mission fields around the world.

  They are excited about what God is doing in northern Michigan, and they feel that a big part of their call here is to encourage fellow Christians while reaching out to children, families and adults with the love of Christ.

  As a 6' 8"basketball player his senior year, his college opportunities were plentiful and a future sports career assured. But James decided to seek God's kingdom first. He entered full-time ministry at 17 and at age 21 founded Rock Your World Ministries. His first youth group grew from a mere 7 teens to over 200 in two years.

  James has a Bachelors Degree in Theology and also holds a counseling endorsement. He has hosted his own weekly television show, "Rock Your World," as well as having appeared on TBN's "Praise The Lord" program. As a youth and music pastor, James also felt the call to minister outside his local church; he traveled nation-wide as a church and conference speaker. He is consumed with a passion to "Raise up a Righteous Generation."

  At Gaylord Community Church, worshipping God together as a church is a major part of our vision. We begin each service with a time of praise and worship and our team also ministers during the offering and times of prayer and personal ministry. We believe that through worshipping God, we as a church can grow together in unity, even as we each grow closer to God personally.

  Our music ministry vision encompasses the desire to magnify God through dynamic and intimate worship.

  Renee has been Director of GCC Nursery since summer of 2006. Since that time, she has renovated our nursery program by developing new,
age-appropriate curriculum, and establishing new safety protocols, weekly procedures and schedules.
